Walpole Island Powwow to recognize traditions

Walpole Island First Nation will be remembering traditions during its 31st Annual Spring Powwow.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event on the Bkejwanong Territory on May 17 and May 18.

This year's powwow is called "Reviving Our Old Ways".

A White Jingle Dress Memorial will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Additionally, there will be a victory dance, a hand drum and owl couples dance and a youth and adult smoke dance with participants in full regalia.

There will also be singing, drumming, a baby pageant and a youth grass dance family special.

Grand Entries will be held Saturday at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. and on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The powwow is free and will be held at the Walpole Island Sports Complex Fairgrounds at 770 Tecumseh Road.
