The second new apartment building at the former Sarnia General Hospital site is set to start welcoming tenants in July.
Skyline Living Vice President BJ Santavy said leasing for the first building at 220 Mitton Street, which welcomed its first residents in December, 2024, has gone really well.
"The building is nearly full, we just have a few suites left to rent, and we've now opened up pre-leasing for phase two, which is 205 MacKenzie Street," said Santavy.
She said the second building is scheduled for occupancy on Canada Day.
"We're expecting the work to be done on that second building sometime this month, [or] beginning of next month -- being June -- and just finishing up a few minor details in July. But the apartments will be ready for a July 1 move in," Santavy said.
Just like the first building, the four storey apartment on MacKenzie Street has 59 units.
"The response has actually been really positive. People are excited to see the former general hospital site being transformed into this beautiful, vibrant living space. I feel like its brought this new life to that whole Mitton Village area," Santavy said.
She said every unit has been "thoughtfully designed."
"[They have] modern features that include in-suite laundry, stainless steel appliances, an open concept layout, and the amenity space can be booked by tenants... who maybe want to have a family event, but can't fit everybody into their apartment," Santavy said.
The separate amenity building -- with a social lounge, hosting kitchen and dining area -- is available for tenants in both buildings to use.
"We've got rent starting at $1,725 for a one bedroom and a two bedroom starts at $2,100," said Santavy. "What we've discovered is this is really excellent value for what you're getting."
