Two people were arrested following a police standoff on Vidal Street South north of Devine Street Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began at around 2:15 p.m.
Sarnia police initially asked people to avoid the area, sharing no other details about what prompted the investigation.
Later that evening, OPP shared that members of the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Sarnia Canine Units were on the scene as well.
Witnesses had told police a resident was the victim of an assault involving two other men. It's alleged during the dispute, one of the two suspects produced a handgun and pointed it at the 51-year-old victim's head.
As police approached, the two men fled to a nearby apartment and officers set up containment on the residence and secured the area.
At around 8:35 p.m., after several hours of negotiations, both men ultimately surrendered themselves to police and were taken into custody.
Corey Maness, 36, and John Nahmabin, 54, were held for bail on several charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who may have video surveillance of the altercation are asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigations Division at 519-344-8861.
