First responders, veterans honoured in Brigden

A local non-profit organization will honour first responders and veterans this weekend, while also shining a spotlight on the importance of mental health.

Operation: Talk 2 Me Johnny's annual Memorial Day will take place Saturday at the Brigden Fairgrounds.

The free, family-friendly event will explore the importance of mental health and the struggles faced by veterans and first responders.

It will feature a petting zoo, face painting, displays and activities by Lambton OPP, Lambton EMS and St. Clair Fire Services, allowing children to interact with every day heroes.

There will also be an inflatable obstacle course, vendor market including food trucks, and daytime entertainment from the band Cornerstone.

The daytime event runs from noon to 4 p.m., and at 3 p.m. four teams will participate in a memorial obstacle course.

A dinner and dance will follow in the evening in the Bridgen Fair Exhibition Hall.

Tickets for the dance will be available at the door starting at 8 p.m. for $30.

All funds raised will be donated to Three Oaks Cabin and Veteran & Everyday Heroes.
