High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

A swimmer from Port Lambton, who attends Western University, has been named to Team Canada for the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games.Shona Branton will compete in the 100 metre breaststroke at the event in Germany, which runs from July 17 to 23.The 22-year-old holds all of Western's breaststroke records, including all OUA breaststroke records, and the U SPORTS record in the 50 metre breaststroke.She received athlete of the year for Western in 2023 and 2024 for her outstanding accomplishments in the pool.Canada has won 106 medals (24 gold, 32 silver and 50 bronze) in swimming overall, the most for any sport.
