Property damaged in early morning drunk driving incident

Damage is reported at the property of a religious building in Sarnia.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, Sarnia police were called about a truck spinning its tires and damaging the lawn of a building on Cobden Street.

Responding officers spotted fresh tire marks in the grass and followed them further down the street, where they located a vehicle matching the provided description.

Police said the vehicle had fresh grass and mud on the tires and under the wheel wells.

Officers arrested the male driver and police said breath samples determined the 49-year-old was over two times the legal limit.

He's charged with impaired driving, mischief under $5,000 and his licence was suspended for 90 days.

The vehicle was also impounded for a week.

Sarnia police said it's not believed the religious institution was intentionally targeted.
