Man arrested in downtown disturbance

One person was arrested in a downtown disturbance over the weekend.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, Sarnia police responded to reports of a man walking into traffic on Christina Street near Wellington Street, and threatening random people on the sidewalk.

Officers located the suspect in front of City Hall at Christina Street and George Street.

Police allege the man instantly became agitated with officers and stated loudly he would continue to walk wherever he wanted, disrupting those within earshot including a nearby patio full of patrons.

Officers attempted to deescalate the situation but were met with anger and its alleged the man yelled at police about his personal beliefs and their job performance.

At this point police said the man raised his fists towards the officers and threatened violence to anyone in the immediate area.

Officers displayed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) advising the man that its use was imminent.

He was then taken into custody without further incident.

A 54-year-old man was charged with mischief, causing a disturbance and breach of probation.
