CF Industries wins international CANstruction award

Sarnia's CF Industries has won an international prize for its 2024 CANstruction build.

Inn of the Good Shepherd Executive Director Myles Vanni said their Star Wars design -- called CAN or CANnot, There is No Try -- depicted a Death Star on one side and Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader on the other.

It was awarded the People's Choice Award in the CANstruction International Competition -- which was one of six international award categories.

“Communities around the world participate in CANstruction each year and each community may have six to 20 builds,” said Vanni.

CF Industries was the only Canadian winner, sharing the list with builds from Hong Kong and the United States. “Considering such a large field of competition, to be named International People’s Choice is a real testament to the team’s creativity, innovation and deep commitment to addressing hunger in our community,” Vanni added.

The display included over 8,200 items and featured glowing lightsabers.

Vanni delivered the award to team members: Maranda Jessup, Davina Anderson, Haley Cadwallader, Kyle Watson, Kevin Paul, Nick Burgel, Chris Dobbelaar and Megan Burnett late last week.

Paul said they were honoured.

“The CF team looks forward to the event every year, as it is a great cause that generates meaningful support for our local foodbank and brings together team members from every department of our site,” said Paul.

CF Industries also won the Judge's Favourite award in the 2025 Sarnia competition, for a third year in a row.
