Petrolia Line barn fire causes significant damage

Damage is estimated at $500,000 after a barn fire was reported on Petrolia Line between Fairweather Road and Plowing Match Road.

Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Chief Rick Cousins said crews were called at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cousins said when he arrived at the scene, a metal shed attached to the main wood barn was fully involved, and within 10 minutes, flames had fully engulfed the main barn as well.

In addition to Petrolia's tanker, Cousins said tankers from St. Clair Brigden Station, St. Clair Courtright Station, Oil Springs, and Wyoming were called in to help.

In a Facebook post, the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department thanked the stations for assisting them "with a well orchestrated water shuttle operation."

Cousins said no animals were on the property at the time.

However, Cousins said there was a scary moment when a firefighter started to show signs of heat exhaustion.

The firefighter was tended to at the scene and sent to the hospital for evaluation. They were released hours later "with a clean bill of health."

A couple of tractors and wagons were lost in the blaze.

The cause is undetermined at this time.

Fire crews cleared the scene at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
