Legionnaires announce additions to coaching staff

The Sarnia Legionnaires have filled out their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming GOJHL hockey season.

The club announced Thursday that Mike Bondy will serve as head coach and director of player development.

Bondy brings a wealth of experience to the team as a proud Sarnia Bee alumni with eight years of pro hockey, a decade of coaching in the GOJHL, and the honor of being the 2009-2010 OHA Coach of the Year.

He takes over for Brian Irwin who resigned in June to return to the east coast for work.

Dan Gibson was hired as associate coach and advisor of hockey operations.

Gibson began his coaching career in 1986, and has held key roles from head coach to general manager in various leagues, including the Jr. Development League, St. Marys Lincolns, and London Nationals.

Dalton Jay joins the team as an assistant coach, boasting an impressive background as a former professional player with the Port Huron Prowlers and experience in the GOJHL with Welland, the OJHL Jr. A Burlington Cougars, and college hockey at Westfield State.

Goalie Coach Mark Phillips has been a dedicated coach with the Lambton Junior Sting for years.

The team said his commitment to player development and team success is unmatched.
