Local students launch summer businesses

Six local students are turning their business ideas into reality.

The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP), through its Business Enterprise Centre of Sarnia-Lambton, launched the businesses as part of its 2025 Summer Company Program.

The program provides each of the participating students with $3,000 in start-up funding and practical guidance throughout the summer.

Autumn Murphy,17, launched Nails_by_murph which is a home-based salon in Corunna offering nail art, including acrylic and gel designs.

She recently added tooth gems, hair tinsel and henna.

"The Summer Company Program has already helped me learn many practical business skills. I look forward to learning even more skills throughout the summer that will help me run a business that is sustainable and profitable," said Murphy in a news release.

Johnathan Lamontagne owns Waterwise Swimming Lessons in Sarnia offering personalized swim instruction in the comfort of the client's own pool.

Lamontagne will focus on safety, skill- building, and confidence. Lessons are available for swimmers of all ages.

L& L Power Washing which was founded by Luca Andali. It offers power- washing and window cleaning services across Sarnia, Bright's Grove, Corunna and Camlachie.

Another business a part of the program is L&L Lawn Care.

It's owned by Luke Laevens and offers affordable lawn care services including mowing, edging and yard clean-ups throughout Sarnia, Bright's Grove, Camlachie and Corunna.

L&L Power Washing and L&L Lawn Care have a partnership to offer combine lawn and power-washing.

Mustafa Arif runs AlphaWave AI, which helps small and medium-sized businesses automate marketing and operations using AI tools, including voice agents, chatbots, smart email outreach and sales funnel automation.

The last business included in the program is R Lillie Art.

It was created by Rae Lillie and features original handmade art and prints designed to spark emotion and personal connection.

They credit the program helping them learn the fundamentals of running a business.

The Summer Company Program is funded by the Province of Ontario and is designed for youth between the ages of 15 to 29.

"Each participant demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit, drive, and a willingness to learn. We are proud to support them as they develop their business skills and experience, and contribute to the Sarnia-Lambton community," said Manager of the Business Enterprise Centre Alison Minato in a news release.
