Prohibited driver charged in alleged vehicle theft

A reminder to never leave your keys in the ignition.

At around 3:15 p.m. Monday, Sarnia police were called to a retail store on Indian Road South near Devine Street for reports of a stolen vehicle.

Police said a male driver arrived at a store along with a female passenger. He left the vehicle running while he ran inside to purchase a few items.

When leaving the store about 10 minutes later, he saw his car being driven out the lot and then travelling west on Devine Street.

City police were able to quickly locate the vehicle on Wellington Street.

A 29-year-old Sarnia woman is charged with four counts of driving while prohibited, two counts of breach of probation, and two counts of driving while suspended.

Police said after speaking with the victim, they did not proceed with a charge of theft of motor vehicle.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
