UPDATE: 'All clear' announced after Confederation St. gas leak

Emergency crews evacuated a south end neighbourhood on Thursday to investigate a natural gas leak in the area of Shepherd Street and Confederation Street.

Sarnia police and Sarnia Fire Rescue were called to the area at around 9 a.m.

Police said a high-pressure gas leak was identified in the vicinity.

"As a precaution, the affected area was evacuated, and both vehicle and pedestrian access to the immediate area has been restricted," read a media release.

Enbridge was called to the area to resolve the issue.

Confederation Street was closed between Russell Street South and Savoy Street.

Shortly before 12 p.m., Sarnia Fire posted on social media, stating everything was "all clear."

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
