PASA to reopen ahead of schedule

After sustaining flooding damage in heavy rain last month, Progressive Auto Sales Arena (PASA) is expected to reopen in less than two weeks.

The City of Sarnia said the arena team has been busy getting the ice installed ahead of an expediated reopening date.

"Ice is in, and we're working to install temporary flooring so we can open the facility on August 18 ahead of initial estimations," read a post on the city's Facebook page.

On July 16, over 70 millimetres of rain fell in about an hour as thunderstorms moved across the region, flooding the arena.

The city initially expected the facility would be closed until the start of the fall ice season.

"Permanent flooring will go in at a later date," read the post. "We're still working to address the impacts of flooding, and the elevator will be out of operation when the facility does reopen."

City staff will be contacting residents and groups who had ice time cancelled because of the damage, and they will be offered their original ice time allocations.

Further public bookings will resume after those users are contacted.

The city is thanking the public for their patience in the matter.

"We're excited to welcome our residents back to the arena, the patience and support we've received is beyond appreciated as we work to bring the facility back online."
