Designs revealed for new Germain Park playground

Designs for a new playground at Germain Park have been revealed.

The new accessible children's play structure is one of the projects to be completed during phase one of the park's master plan.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley said the project will kick off the renewal of the park.

"It's been great that we've taken the long-term revision of the city," Bradley said. "What can we afford to do and how can we do it over five to 10 years. That's what we're doing with Canatara Park, and you're seeing major investments going in there, Tecumseh and Cox Park just had major investments. This is continuing that and Germain Park is a great park in the center of the city."

The $476,000 park, designed by ABC Recreation Ltd., will be installed by Landscape Structures Inc.

Meanwhile, city council accepted a $100,000 donation toward a splash pad at the park in July.

Phase one of the master plan also includes relocating the dog park to the west side of the existing large soccer pitch.

"By adding to it, thankfully with the support of the Sarnia-Bluewaterland Rotary Club for the new splashpad, [and] now having more accessible playground equipment and a new dog park, it's all good things for the people in that area and across the city," Bradley said.

These projects were advanced through the 2025 capital budget process. A timeline for construction hasn't been announced.

"I like the design, I think it's very creative and I think young people, in particular, will like how it's an attraction," he said.

In 2023, the concept plans were updated to include a new accessible outdoor pool facility.
