Sarnia police have made an arrest in connection with a series of thefts.
Police allege between August 20 and September 7, a man committed five retail thefts at businesses in the area of Quinn Drive and London Road.
Over $1,000 worth of clothing and electronic devices were reported stolen. Police were able to identify a suspect.
At around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16 officers responded to a Quinn Drive businesses after a loss prevention officer was allegedly assaulted after asking the man to leave the property.
Less than two hours later, the suspect was seen walking along London Line and was arrested for assault and failing to comply with a release order. During the arrest, officers discovered he was in possession of a prohibited weapon, a type of switchblade.
A search warrant was executed at a London Line address on Wednesday, September 17. There, police seized several items believed to be linked to the man and the reported thefts.
Joseph Freer, 43, of Sarnia is charged with assault, unauthorized possession of a weapon, failing to comply with a release order, and five counts of theft.
