Fall fair circuit continues in Forest

The Forest Fall Fair is the third stop on the local circuit this weekend.

According to the Forest Agricultural Society, the first record of a fair being held in the community was in 1870 at the corner of Broadway and Main Streets.

It's been held at its existing site, the Forest Fairgrounds, since 1909.

Executive Director with the Forest Agricultural Society Gord Marsh said the theme of this year's fair is Country Nights and Carnival Lights.

"We have free entertainment in the entertainment tent all weekend," said Marsh. "As always we have the Triple C Farm Petting Zoo for the kids and NorthFIRE Circus is going to be doing an LED fire show for us."

Marsh said another one of the new attractions this year is a Horse Jumping Show featuring riders from local riding clubs.

He said there will be a lot of the traditional favourites over the three days as well, including fireworks, the demolition derby and the parade on Saturday.

"Our parade will be a little bigger this year than normal," said Marsh. "We have some extra bands coming and it kicks off Saturday and noon and usually gets to the fairgrounds by about 12:30 p.m."

Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and at 7 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Admission is $15 and elementary school aged children get in for free.
