Noelle's Gift to 'light up' Canatara Park

Runners will fill Canatara Park for the annual Light up the Night for Noelle Run and Walk this weekend.

The 13th annual glow in the dark themed event will be held on Saturday, September 27 and have a five and 10 kilometre walk and run as well as a kids run.

Race Coordinator Bryan Cowden said money raised will go towards the five programs Noelle's Gift for Children operates across Sarnia and Chatham.

"(The run) is a way to have a unique event that raises money for the kids that are supported by Noelle's Gift," he said. "I believe it started in 2013 and it's been a success ever since."

The annual run typically has between 350 to 400 participants.

New this year is the No Frills 5K option which allows people to walk or run for fun without receiving the t-shirt, medal, or timer chip for a lower price.

Cowden said a highlight is the kids one kilometre race which some students have been practicing all summer for.

"Throughout the summer I was putting on kids track sessions where 25 of the 75 kids registered accumulated 41 kilometres, so when they run that one kilometre race, that's 42 kilometres for the summer, which equals a full marathon," he said

Those students will be getting additional medals.

Cowden said this event not only gives to charity but also gives back to the community.

"As an avid runner myself, I know the benefits of running and health, so it's kind of a way to give back myself to the community and it brings everyone together," he said.

The run will start at 6:30 p.m. and those registered can pick up their packet from 4:30 p.m. until 6:15 p.m.

Thee will be an after party at Maud's Variety on Mitton Street starting at 8 p.m.

Registration is open until the night before the run.

Tickets are $75 for the 5K and 10K, $50 for the No Frills 5K and the kids race is $40.

They can be purchased on the events website
