Teen charged with weapons offences after weekend assault

A teen is charged in connection with a violent attack in Sarnia over the weekend.

Police were called to the area of East Street and Kathleen Avenue at around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday.

It's alleged a male youth dressed in all black, wearing a ski mask, and armed with bear spray, two folding knives and a fixed blade dagger, called out another group of youths passing by.

There was a confrontation, at which time police allege the youth in the ski mask discharged the bear spray into the faces of three others, before striking one person in the head and chest.

Police said all three victims suffered minor injuries.

The 17-year-old suspect was apprehended by police a short distance away and charged with the following:

-Assault Causing Bodily Harm -Assault with a Weapon (3 Counts)

-Disguise with Intent -Fail to Comply with Sentence (2 Counts)

-Possession of a Weapon contrary to Prohibition Order

-Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

-Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

The teen was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.

In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth's name will not be released.
