Joint safety initiative targets unsafe 402 drivers

A recent joint effort by Lambton OPP and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) targeted unsafe vehicles and drivers on the 402.

On Wednesday, September 17, police and the MTO conducted an enforcement initiative, focused on commercial vehicles travelling along the westbound lanes of the highway between Airport Road and the Blue Water Bridge.

The initiative, part of Operation Safe Approach launched in August, saw three out of 16 commercial vehicles inspected taken out of service.

A total of 23 charges were laid ranging from hours of work regulations, dangerous goods and trip inspections to handheld communication devices and moving violations.

Operation Safe Approach will continue for the foreseeable future, aimed at maintaining road safety, particularly during traffic backups on the westbound Highway 402 leading to the Blue Water Bridge.
