Weapons related charges laid after incident at transitional housing facility

Sarnia police seized a couple of weapons in a call Thursday at a transitional housing facility.

Police responded to the Confederation Street residence for a man that was allegedly behaving violently.

It's alleged that while staff conducted a morning check on the male in his unit, he was found slumped over with what appeared to be an illegal substance on the bed.

Staff took custody of the substance and spoke with the man who was advised such clear rule violations would result in discharge.

Despite this, police said staff offered continued support via an available bed at another facility.

At that time, it's alleged the man became agitated and began punching a dresser, while threatening to slit the throat of one of the staff members.

When police arrived the accused was seen leaving the building and arrested.

During a search of his person, officers allegedly located a hatchet in his waistband and a folded knife in his pocket.

The 44-year-old man is charged with uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and failing to comply with a probation order.

His was released following his bail hearing, with conditions.
