Town hall set for proposed library consolidation in St. Clair Twp.

St. Clair Township residents can voice their opinions about the proposed consolidation of the Sombra and Port Lambton libraries during an upcoming town hall meeting.

A date for the public forum has been set for Wednesday, October 1, at the Port Lambton Community Hall. The meeting is scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

After a Joint Library Facilities Review was conducted in 2023, Lambton County Library proposed closing the Port Lambton site and expanding the Sombra location to allow for enhanced programming and resources.

The plan was endorsed by the county. However, some St. Clair Township councillors were not sold on the idea and asked for a town hall meeting to be held to gauge public feedback.

“While changes are required to provide a facility that can offer users a modern library experience now and for decades into the future, we want to hear from area residents about how changes may impact them so that both St. Clair Township and Lambton County Councils can make informed decisions about the proposal to consolidate the two library branches,” said Library Services Manager Darlene Coke in a media release.

Bryan Boyle, a third-party facilitator, will be present during the town hall meeting.

Pre-registration is not required, but residents who would like to do so can visit the Lambton County Library's website.
