Police recover alleged stolen dog

A man's newly adopted dog was returned to him shortly after it was stolen Monday night.

It's alleged a 42-year-old man was approached by a male suspect while out walking his new pet he had adopted from the humane society.

Sarnia police responded to a Maxwell Street address at around 8 p.m., and were told the male suspect claimed the dog was his, and threatened to assault the owner if he didn't give him the dog.

Police said to avoid any violence, the victim stepped back and the suspect allegedly unhooked the leash and made off with the pet.

Police were able to locate the dog and suspect a short time later behind a London Road building near Russell Street.

A 27-year-old man is charged with robbery.

He was released with conditions not to communicate or be within 25 metres of the victim.
