The Petrolia Discovery Foundation is hosting a new family-friendly event to teach residents about Canada's military history in an interactive way.
The event, Military History in Action, will include First World War demonstrations, aviation flyovers, live cavalry horse demonstrations, and exhibits from local museums and heritage sites.
“This event brings history to life in a way that’s both educational and unforgettable,” said Petrolia Discovery Foundation Board of Directors Chairperson Liz Welsh. “We are proud to welcome the community to experience Canada’s wartime legacy up close.”
Welsh said displays will also be set up by the 1st Hussars, and cadet troops will participate in exercises.
"Plan to spend, I would say, at least a few hours there. There's going to be lots to see," she said.
The event will be held on Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. A rain date has been set for Sunday, October 5.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth between the ages of 10 and 18. Children under the age of 10, veterans, and cadets in uniform can attend the event for free.
Welsh said it is a cash-only event. On-site parking will be available. The historic site in Petrolia is located at 4281 Discovery Ln.
The Petrolia Optimist Club will be offering food and refreshments.
Additional details about the event can be found on the foundation's Facebook page.
