North Middlesex resident charged in fatal farm accident investigation

Middlesex OPP have charged a 58-year-old from North Middlesex in relation to a farming accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old from Arkona last month.

In an update on Thursday, police said the Crime Unit has charged Cornelis Verheyen with causing death by criminal negligence under the criminal code.

OPP, Lambton EMS and local firefighters were dispatched to a farm on Parkhill Drive in North Middlesex just after 4 p.m. on September 20.

An investigation revealed an individual was located unconscious in a well on the property.

The individual, identified in a GoFundMe campaign as James Aaron Brown, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Members of the Ministry of Labour and Office of the Coroner assisted with the OPP investigation.

Police said the accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 18.

Further information related to the case was not released.
