The Festival of Lights will be celebrated in Sarnia next week.
Diwali is a multi-day religious festival, observed by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists, which commemorates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services Chief Jeff Weber has declared Monday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 21 as special occasion days under the city's fireworks bylaw.
"In accordance with the fireworks bylaw, firework sales are permitted on the special occasion day and seven days preceding it," a notice from the fire department read. "Private displays of consumer (recreation) fireworks are permitted on private property from dusk to 11 p.m. on the special occasion day, as well as one day prior and one day following. Prohibited fireworks under the fireworks bylaw are not permitted at any time."
More information on Sarnia's fireworks bylaw can be found on the City of Sarnia website.
