One man facing charges after cornfield crash

A man is facing impaired driving charges after a collision.

Sarnia police received a crash detection call from the area of Waterworks Road and Confederation Line early Saturday morning.

Officers found one man walking with minor injuries around a damaged car.

Police noted the car was going fast enough to sever a hydro pole and stop roughly 100 metres past the impact, as well as evidence of alcohol and cannabis use.

The driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation, but was transported to a hospital due to his injuries. The driver was unable to provide a breath sample, so officers proceeded with a blood sample, which was sent for analysis.

The 23-year-old Sarnia driver has been released from the hospital with a police appearance notice on charges of impaired driving.

The investigation remains ongoing with additional charges pending the result of the blood analysis.
