Woman charged after leaving car crash scene

A woman is facing multiple charges following a car crash.

Early Saturday morning, Sarnia police responded to Lakeshore Road after reports of a crash.

Officers located a red Mini Cooper in a ditch with significant front-end damage after it collided with several trees.

Police noted that the driver and any occupants had left the scene.

While at the scene, a man approached the officers and claimed to be the driver of the car; However, CCTV footage showed that only two females exited the vehicle. He was criminally cautioned for obstructing police after admitting he had lied and had been part of transporting the occupants from the scene.

Officers located the two female occupants on Assiniboine Crescent. They determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and placed her under arrest.

After completing blood samples, a 20-year-old Sarnia resident was charged with two counts of operation while impaired and failing to remain.
