Child luring, sex assault investigation results in charges

Charges have been laid in a child luring and sexual assault investigation in Sarnia.

Police said a 14-year-old girl began communicating with a man on Snapchat in May.

They said the man went by the name of Rishu and disclosed that he was 20-years-old to the teen, who also shared her age.

It's alleged the man asked the girl to send nude photos and also sent graphic images and videos of himself.

Sarnia police said, despite the fact the teen never told the man what school she attended, he started sending Uber Eats orders to her while she was at school. It's believed he learned her location through the maps function on Snapchat.

In June, police said the man attended the girl's home while her parents were out.

Police allege he gave her an iPhone during the visit, and touched her in a sexual manner.

The two continued to communicate with each other until early August, when the teen's parents discovered the messages and notified police.

Police arrested Ritesh Kumar, 29, of Caledonia on Saturday, October 18. He's been charged with the following:

- Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age

- Sexual interference

- Possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material

- Luring a person under 16 years of age by telecommunication

- Make sexually explicit material available to a person under 16 years of age

- Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age

Kumar was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.

Police said Kumar went by the username B_RISHU01 and barrit999 on Snapchat.

Anyone who may also be a victim is urged to contact the Sarnia Police Criminal Investigation Division at 519-344-8861.
