The winter recreation programming lineup at Sarnia's Strangway Centre was released on Tuesday.
Activities Programmer Mike Neely said residents are able to access it online, or pick up a physical copy at the East Street site or city hall.
"Individuals will be able to view the programs that we will have available for our winter season, which includes the months of January, February ,and March," said Neely. "That gives them roughly two weeks before the registration actually opens up on December 16 at 8:30 a.m., which they're able to do online, in-person, or over the phone."
Neely said once registration opens, adults aged 20 and older can join a program at any point in the season if there is room.
"We hear a lot of rumblings and conversations in the lobby area. People like to have that time to figure out what works for them. There's some snowbirds, so they're mapping out what series they can and can not participate in. Fitness programs are broken up into two series. One would be seven weeks and the other would be six. So, some individuals are planning that out around their schedule," he said.
Neely said there is a new yoga program planned with instructor Ann Bending, following the retirement of Pam Chin, who led the programming for 16 years.
A day trip to Toronto is also scheduled this season.
"We are going to be doing the St. Lawrence Market and Little Canada day trip on Wednesday, March 25," said Neely. "The St. Lawrence Market is one of Ontario's finest markets and Little Canada is basically what it sounds like, Canada on a miniature scale. A little museum that should excite people."
Neely said people really benefit from not only the fitness programs, but the social aspect of the programs.
There are over 85 city programs and activities offered primarily through the Strangway Centre, serving between 1,800 and 2,000 participants each year.
Registration (which again opens on December 16) can be completed online at www.sarnia.ca/RecRegistration, by phone during business hours at 519-332- 0656, or in person during business hours at the Strangway Centre or Sarnia City Hall.
The winter program schedule runs from January 2 to March 27, 2026.
