The Sarnia Sting has traded defencemen with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The OHL club announced on Monday afternoon that it has sent blueliner and team captain Lukas Fischer to the Hounds, in exchange for defenceman Hunter Solomon and a package of five draft picks.
Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said that Solomon was a player the team had its eye on for some time.
"We see a lot of upside in his game. Leadership, character, passion, competitiveness, and he checks all the boxes," said Seca. "We believe he’s someone we will win with."
Solomon, who has one goal for six points so far for the Soo, has an early 2007 birthdate and is included on the NHL's Central Scouting watchlist.
"We think NHL teams will really value his competitiveness and work ethic," said Seca. "He will complement our back end, but most importantly, he is someone we can inject into our room who can lead. We’re excited to welcome Hunter and to see the impact he will have on our group."
Fischer heads to the Greyhounds after making a significant impact in Sarnia, Seca said that the swap places him with a contender.
"Lukas has only half a season left in the league, and he has been a significant player and a leader for us," said Seca. "This move gives him the opportunity to go to a team that has a chance to win a championship. We are grateful for everything Lukas and his family have given to our program and wish him nothing but success."
In addition to Solomon, the Sting will receive from the Soo a second-round draft pick in 2026, from Kingston, a fourth-round pick in 2027, from Peterborough, a sixth-pound pick in 2027, from Oshawa, and a fourth-round pick in 2028.
