The Sarnia-Lambton United Way is making a renewed call for donations.
The annual fundraising campaign in support of 16 local agencies, including Sarnia-Lambton Rebound, Lambton Elderly Outreach and Salvation Army is behind last year's effort by about $80,000.
Volunteer President Jason Killingsworth said so far 87 per cent of the $1.5 million goal has been raised.
"The Sarnia-Lambton United Way passed an important milestone last week, we hit the $1 million mark, said Killingsworth. "Results from the NOVA campaign came in and pushed us well over. Employee and retiree donations and special event proceeds were all matched by NOVA, resulting in $307,557 for the United Way. While this achievement reflects our strong local generosity, we still have concerns about raising enough to continue funding the vital programs and services we currently do."
Killingsworth said with just two and a half weeks left in the campaign, they are urging individuals and workplaces to consider giving, or perhaps giving a little bit more, so that no one gets left behind.
"Unfortunately, if we don't meet our target we will have to make some sacrifices to some organizations, be it in a smaller amount than what they're asking for, or not be able to fund whatsoever," he said. "So, our Community Investment Committee will have to make some decisions in regards to that, but yeah that is the harsh reality if we don't get what we need."
Killingsworth said donations can be made until December 31 online through the United Way's website.
Donations can also be dropped off at the United Way's office at 1362 Lambton Mall Road.
