The cause of a fatal fire early Thursday morning is under investigation.
Sarnia Fire Rescue, along with members of the Sarnia Police Service and Lambton EMS, responded to structure fire on Vidal Street South near Devine Street just after 12 a.m.
Flames were visible coming from a 13-unit apartment building when firefighters from four stations arrived on scene.
Emergency responders were told an occupant was believed to be in the affected unit.
Firefighters located the occupant in a second floor bedroom and began life-saving measures including CPR. Unfortunately, despite these efforts the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Sarnia Fire Rescue Services extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s loved ones and to all those affected by this tragic incident," read a news release.
The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been notified.
Further details, including the victim's age, were not immediately available.
