Suspected cocaine seized during traffic stop

Sarnia police officers smashed the windows of a vehicle to gain control of an alleged impaired driver during a traffic stop.

A concerned citizen alerted police about a vehicle driving erratically around Russell Street and London Road on Saturday, December 20, just before 2:30 p.m.

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) said patrol officers found the vehicle on Colborne Road, just south of Rosedale Avenue, drifting from side to side, nearly hitting a curb in the process.

The vehicle was pulled over south of Errol Road.

The driver allegedly refused to follow instructions.

Although a police cruiser blocked the vehicle, the driver reportedly continued to rock the gear selector between neutral and drive, while refusing to get out.

Officers broke the windows and extricated the driver from the vehicle.

It's alleged that the driver continued to be combative while being placed under arrest.

During a search, officers seized a small bag of suspected cocaine (6.9 grams).

The 39-year-old was charged with drug possession, operation while impaired by drug, failing to comply with probation, and resisting a police officer.

The SPS said the court released him with conditions.
