Over 30 drivers charged during annual Festive RIDE campaign

Lambton County OPP issued over 30 impaired driving charges during its recent Festive RIDE Campaign.

From November 20, 2025 to January 1, 2026, the local OPP detachment held 250 RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) events aimed at removing impaired drivers from the road.

Police said during those efforts, 33 impaired driving charges were laid, and six warn-range suspensions were issued.

Across the West Region, 13 detachments conducted a total of 3,095 RIDE spot checks during the traffic initiative, the highest number of RIDE checks in five years.

Police said a total of 269 impaired driving charges were handed out, down from 292 during last year's campaign. Officers also issued a total of 40 warn-range suspensions, up from 19 in 2024.

"West Region remains committed to keeping our roads safe through proactive RIDE programs and focused impaired-driving enforcement efforts. We remind all drivers to plan ahead, make responsible choices, and always drive sober-if you've been drinking, arrange a safe ride home." said OPP West Region Inspector Michael McConnell in a news release.

As of January 1 under the Highway Traffic Act, first and second time impaired driving related occurrences will result longer roadside licence suspensions and motorists convicted of impaired driving causing death will receive a lifetime driving ban.
