The Sarnia Police Service is acknowledging the quick response of residents who intervened in a sexual assault investigation involving a knife-wielding man.
A 24-year-old man is accused of confronting a female victim with a knife and making sexual demands at a residence near London Road and Christina Street North on January 25, shortly after 8:18 p.m.
Sarnia police said the victim called for help and other people in the residence intervened. No injuries were reported.
It's alleged the accused had previously behaved erratically at the residence throughout the day, making unwanted sexual advances toward occupants.
He was arrested the next day, at around 4 a.m., in the Afton Drive area.
The accused, identified by police as Damon Lewis, was charged with sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement. Charges against the accused have not been proven in court.
He was released by the court with conditions following a bail hearing.
