Museums in Lambton County will host PA day events for families.
The Oil Museum of Canada invites families to brighten up their day with Illumination, an event to explore the science and stories of light and learn about lighting technology and how people have historically lit up the dark.
Visitors will learn how kerosene was one of the first products refined from crude oil, how people used it to light up their homes, and how it helped spark the petroleum industry in Oil Springs and Petrolia.
“We're really excited to invite families to the Oil Museum of Canada in Oil Springs," said Oil Museum of Canada Educational Program Coordinator Christina Sydorko. "They can explore the illumination history. So that's the history of light. They can make a candle, they can see our historical railway lanterns. And they can play with light colors such as prisms and other items Museum."
The drop-in event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, January 30.
"We're also looking for volunteers, so if there's teenagers in need of volunteer hours, we would love for you to come help us out at the museum earn some volunteer hours, making some crafts and helping families enjoy the museum." said Sydorko.
The Lambton Heritage Museum will host its own event on the PA Day, as it will be hosting a screening of the film Night at the Museum. Free popcorn will be available courtesy of the West Coast Lions Club of Grand Bend.
Those who come to the screening will also have the opportunity to take part in a self-guided scavenger hunt inside one of the museum galleries before or after the film, and there are prizes to be won.
The film starts at 1 p.m. Friday, January 30. No registration is required, but there is an admission fee.
