Sting drop 6-3 decision to Flint

It was deja vu for the Sarnia Sting Wednesday night.

The OHL hockey club fell 6-3 to the visiting Flint Firebirds in front of 2,920 fans at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

The Sting dropped a 6-3 decision in Flint on Saturday, and have now lost three in a row.

Ben Pickell, Tyler Challenger and Liam Beamish all scored for Sarnia in the loss.

Goalie Patrick Quinlan made a huge stop in the third period for the Sting, earning him 'Save of the Night' honours. He turned away a total of 17 shots.

Flint's Kevin He capped off his night with a pair of empty net goals to record his first hat-trick since joining the Firebirds in a trade in late December.

Sarnia drops to 14-30-5-1 on the season with the loss.

Sting GM Dylan Seca said they haven't lost hope of earning a spot in the playoffs, where they could be up against the Firebirds.

"If we can climb into the playoffs, which we still believe is very realistic as much as it might not look it, that could potentially be a matchup, I'd love to have that matchup," said Seca in a post game news conference. "Tonight, and at some point we're going to need to steal some points, the teams around us are sputtering equally. I think more important than wins at all costs, is just seeing the team play a certain way, seeing really good progression in players and the way the team wants to look and wants to play and that will set us up."

Sarnia travels to Oshawa Friday night to face the Generals.

You can catch the game live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m.
