Sarnia police arrested and charged a 38-year-old woman with breaching probation and theft under $5,000 after store security apprehended her for shoplifting.
Officers were called to a large retailer on Exmouth Street around 5:30 p.m. on February 19.
Security staff observed a suspicious female in the store.
"Video surveillance showed this female remove a kitchen knife from the packaging and conceal it on her person," Sarnia police said in a news release. "She then used that knife to remove other stolen items from their packaging, including hunting gloves and a Bluetooth speaker. The items were concealed in a black bag before the female exited, making no attempt to pay. She was arrested by store security, and police were called."
When officers arrived, they identified the female and discovered she was bound by two probation orders, requiring her to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The woman was released after a bail hearing with conditions.
