Sarnia fire officials said no one was injured after a fire broke out on Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the Murphy Road and Wellington Street area shortly after 2:30 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, they found two homes on fire.
Initial reports stated that a person may have still been in one of the buildings, but a complete search found no one inside.
"Firefighters quickly extinguished both, performed search and rescue, and no one was in the units of either home. There are no injuries to report to civilians or to the firefighters," said Sarnia Fire safety educator Mike Otis. "It's currently under investigation. It's believed to be accidental."
The south side of one residence, and the east side of the other, were engulfed in flames.
"It's so important for us to fight fires quickly, because fire spreads from one house to the next," said Otis. "We knocked it down quickly, and the damages (were) contained to those two areas of each house."
Damages are estimated at $400,000.
