Documentary follows butterfly on the edge of extinction

The story of the Mottled Duskywing is being highlighted locally.

The butterfly is the subject of a documentary being screened at the Sarnia Library Theatre on Wednesday, February 25.

Butterflies on the Brink: The Story of the Mottled Duskywing, follows a research and recovery team over three years, and the successful reintroduction of the butterfly into Ontario in 2021, about seven years after it was listed as endangered under the Ontario Endangered Species Act (ESA).

The Chair of the  Ontario Butterfly Species at Risk Recovery Team Jessica Linton will be in attendance. She is the author of the federal status assessment and Ontario provincial recovery strategy for Mottled Duskywing, as well as author of the draft federal recovery strategies for Karner Blue, Eastern Persius Duskywing, and Frosted Elfin.

On its Facebook Page, Lambton Wildlife said the story has a local connection and viewers will recognize Pinery Provincial Park and local experts in the documentary.

Lambton Wildlife has contributed financially to this project.

The free screening begins at 7 p.m.
