After a devasting losing season, ownership changes have been made with the Sarnia Legionnaires.
The Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) confirmed in a statement Tuesday the previous ownership group has been reinstated with full operational control, returning the organization to the ownership structure in place during the 2024-25 season.
"Throughout this past season, the league worked in collaboration with the Sarnia organization to review operational matters involving the franchise," read the statement. "As with any responsible governance process, these matters required time and cooperation to ensure decisions were made in the best long-term interests of the team, its players, and the community."
The league said it has worked with the ownership group to guide the team through a transition that positions the organization for renewed stability and future success.
The Sarnia Legionnaires wrapped up the 2025-2026 season with a record 50 losses and zero wins.
The GOHL said moving forward, it will work with local stakeholders to reestablish the organization's operational structure and prepare for a strong return next season. This rebuilding process is intended to ensure the long-term health and competitiveness of the team.
“Sometimes the right decisions take time," said Commissioner Craig Spada in the statement. "By allowing the proper process to run its course, we have now positioned the Sarnia Legionnaires for stability and a strong future in the Greater Ontario Hockey League.”
The statement went on to thank fans, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who stood behind the Legionnaires throughout what can only be described as challenging season.
