SCRCA issues flood watch

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has put out a flood watch for the watershed due to recent rainfall across the region, with more on the way.

Over the last four days, the SCRCA said 20 to 50 millimetres of rain fell in the area, and there is more forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Between 20 to 40 millimetres of rain is expected to keep water levels high and prolong flood risks.

Due to the recent warm weather and the melting of snow and ice, a significant amount of water has caused rivers and streams to rise.

The conservation authority said municipal staff should monitor local conditions closely, with special attention to areas with known local drainage problems.

In St. Clair Township, Stanley Line between Kimball Road and Waubuno Road is closed due to flooding.

Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, and children and pets should be kept away from the water.

The flood watch will remain in effect until Friday, March 13.

Meanwhile, the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook as 25 to 50 millimetres of rainfall is anticipated in the watershed area on Tuesday and Wednesday. Minor flooding is possible in low-lying, undeveloped floodplain areas.
