Learning opportunity offered ahead of 2026 election

Information sessions are being held this month for any Lambton County residents who are considering running in the fall municipal election.

Director of Legislative Services and Petrolia Clerk Mandi Pearson said the public forum will feature guest speaker Nigel Bellchamber, a municipal governance expert in Ontario.

He will discuss the roles and responsibilities of being a member of council (which includes the role of mayor).

"He dives right into everything from A-Z about what being a councillor is," Pearson said.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Pearson said this is the third time clerks from across Lambton have organized the event.

"Between the two sessions, we had about 150 people last election term, so that was the 2022 session," Pearson said.

The information sessions will be held on Wednesday, March 25, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., at the County of Lambton Building, located at 789 Broadway St. in Wyoming.

Each session will run approximately two hours.

Pre-registration is not required for those planning to attend in person.

Those planning to participate virtually can email election@petrolia.ca ahead of time in order to receive a link for the meeting.

The 2026 municipal election is slated for October 26.

The nomination period will open on Friday, May 1, and the final day to file forms will be on Friday, August 21.
