Guns seized following investigation into intimate partner violence

One person has been charged and three guns were seized after police were initially called for a verbal dispute.

Officers were called to a home on Nelson Street early Wednesday morning for a verbal argument, classified as intimate partner violence.

No charges were laid for that, but police said that during that investigation multiple firearms were spotted in the home. Investigators determined that the owner of the guns did not have a valid firearms licence, resulting in the man's arrest.

Two handguns and one rifle were seized, and the man was charged with three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.

According to police, a search warrant to search the home was then obtained. No more guns were found, but officers did seize ammunition during the search.

The man was released from police custody with conditions, following a bail hearing.
