Traffic stop leads to drug trafficking charge

A suspended driver caught behind the wheel in Sarnia has been charged with drug trafficking.

Police said a suspicious vehicle with expired plates was seen going eastbound on Nelson Street at 10 p.m. on March 17.

A patrol officer stopped the vehicle on Gordon Street and later determined the driver's licence had been suspended.

The passenger was also told to get out of the vehicle so it could be impounded.

During a search, police seized drug paraphernalia, a scale, and an unspecified quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine from inside a handbag.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested, but police said the passenger was later released unconditionally.

The driver, a 25-year-old Courtright woman, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The court released her with conditions.
