Registration is underway for the annual City of Sarnia Community Parks Clean Up Day.
Recreation Coordinator Rebecca Warren said they're looking for individuals and groups to help on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon.
"It's a great way to get some volunteer hours," said Warren. "It's a great way to give back to your community and help beautify the spaces and keep them clean for everybody to use. We're so lucky that we have so many wonderful parks and greenspaces in our community, so it's nice when the community gets together to help take care of them."
Warren said they usually get 300 to 400 volunteers to help clean up litter at a park, trail or green space.
"You can give a top three choice of where you would like to go, and then based on interest - of course there's going to be some parks that are extra popular - we let you know from there what park you've been selected to help clean up," Warren said.
Pre-registration is required so the city can obtain enough supplies.
"NOVA [Chemicals] sponsors the event, so we can purchase the clean up kits," Warren said. "It includes gloves, garbage bags, a bucket... that sort of thing. So, participants don't have to provide all of that material."
It's recommended all participants wear closed toe shoes.
All registered participants are invited to a barbecue hosted by the Rotary Club of Sarnia -Lambton After Hours at Germain Park following the clean up.
"Registration is open for two weeks. It closes on April 10," Warren said.
