A spring maintenance project is underway at Shell's Manufacturing Centre.
The activity is expected to take about six weeks to complete.
During the activity, area residents may notice elevated flaring.
Shell said all safety precautions and standard regulatory protocols are being followed, and required notifications have been issued and updates will be made as needed.
According to its website, the SMC refinery and chemicals plant can process up to 85,000 barrels a day of crude oil, which is then converted and refined to help meet southern Ontario’s transportation fuel needs (gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel).
