A Petrolia councillor has taken a leave of absence from his municipal duties.
Clerk/Operations Clerk Mandi Pearson said in an e-mail on Monday evening that Ross O'Hara would not be attending council meetings or participating in official municipal responsibilities, effective immediately.
Pearson said "on behalf of council and staff, we wish councillor O'Hara all the very best."
Pearson said council operations will continue as scheduled, and all inquiries will be addressed through the mayor and appropriate municipal channels.
Town council granted O'Hara a medical leave of absence, which will be revisited after a three month period, at its meeting on Monday.
O'Hara has served as a member of Petrolia council for about 30 years.
He was first elected as a councillor in 1986 and later served as mayor for two terms. O'Hara took a break from municipal politics and rejoined council in 2015.
