Bayside Centre development to include housing

A large piece of real estate in downtown Sarnia is to be developed into new housing.

Elevate Living is a development and home construction business focused on meeting the needs of the community through housing and has been working to develop the former Bayside Centre site.

"Housing specifically will be a part of it. I mean, that's what we do. And then we are looking to potentially have a grocery store there as well. But it's too early to say," said CEO of Elevate Living Drew Toth. "Housing 100 per cent, that's what I can 100 per cent confirm now."

The company has spent several months gathering feedback from residents about the project and what should be built there.

"We had asked residents three key things. The first one was what they love about their hometown. We asked, what are any concerns that they had and what they wanted to see in downtown," said Toth. "The high cost of housing was a significant concern, and then multiple comments about rising rents and the need for more affordable options."

Elevate Living is currently in the process of designing the project and getting the needed approval from the city and county.

"What I would like to say to the community is that they can expect a design in an open house for a design reveal in the fall of this year," he said.

Toth thanked the community for their participation in giving their feedback and said that the company hopes to continue to build the relationship as the project moves forward.
